Hansgrohe Water Symposium 2016

“Wasser im Netz”

“Wasser im Netz” was the title of the Hansgrohe Water Symposium 2016, which Hansgrohe Group invited participants to come to Schiltach for on 8 June. The talks and discussions focused on the issue of how much of an impact digitalisation is already having on our own personal day-to-day lives, our work environments and economic life, and where increased networking is taking us. “Without water, we cannot live – without digitalisation, we cannot survive.” Thorsten Klapproth, Chairman of the Executive Board at Hansgrohe SE, summed up the issue with this comparison between the valuable resource and progressive digitalisation. His welcome speech at the Aquamax in Schiltach in front of 250 guests was followed by talks from renowned guest speakers – such as Sascha Lobo and Günther H. Oettinger.

“Without water, we cannot live – without digitalisation, we cannot survive”

Five experts from the fields of industry, politics, research, culture and architecture spoke about smart data. Sascha Lobo, a well-known blogger and author from Berlin, took at look at the issue of “Big Data & Society” from lots of different perspectives. Dr. Alexander Rieck from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering in Stuttgart, offered us an insight into the (beautiful) new environment that we live and work in. Dr. Eberhard Veit, advisor to the German Federal Government and member of the steering committee for the Industry 4.0 platform, engaged in a fascinating dialogue with Ulrich Dietz, CEO of GFT Technologies SE, about the “Working day in the midst of a constantly evolving digital revolution?!”. Günther H. Oettinger was invited as a keynote speaker. The EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society spoke about Europe's role in the digital revolution. He underlined the importance of future-oriented technologies and market innovations.

Ideas competition “Wasser im Netz” – awards ceremony

One of the highlights of the day was the naming of the three winners of the ideas competition Wasser im Netz. The global sanitary company used the competition, which was launched in the spring of 2016, to forge links between the traditional world of craftsmanship and products and the data cosmos of the future. The company was looking for new approaches linking the digital world to the analogue world of water experience and sustainability. Hansgrohe has spent the last 115 years being inventive with water – while promoting the conservation of this elixir of life. The panel of judges reviewed 75 ideas, submitted by established but also start-up companies, innovators and students from 17 countries, ranging from Europe and the USA through to Israel, Pakistan and the Congo. The prize money of 17,000 euros was shared between the three winners, who came from Germany and the USA.
