AXOR: 25 Years of Bathroom Individualisation

Good design is the perfect union of innovation, art and craftsmanship

Schiltach, April 2018. Designers have to bear in mind that any object they design not only has to be aesthetically appealing, but must also be able to fulfil its intended function as best possible. We are rarely aware of this fundamental premise in everyday life. That is why AIGA, the American professional association for design, launched World Design Day in 2006. Every year on 27 April, this celebration aims to draw attention to what goes into creating a design concept: Design is the union of innovation, art and craftsmanship.

Hansgrohe brings together innovation, quality and design

Once only a functional space, the bathroom today is regarded as a retreat with a relaxing ambience, which is becoming increasingly comfortable and convenient. On one hand, this development is being driven by innovations which increase functionality and ease of use; the adjustable shower bar, for example, which Hansgrohe first started selling in 1953. On the other, quality design also plays an important role, bringing art to the bathroom. “But anyone who judges design exclusively by its outer shell, fails to appreciate its core,” says Thorsten Klapproth, Chairman of the Hansgrohe Executive Board. “We at Hansgrohe see design as a mindset whose boundaries constantly need to be explored. That is exactly what we strive to do in collaboration with the world’s most distinguished designers. Their creativity opens up a new perspective on bathrooms and the concept of wellbeing, and has sparked numerous technical innovations.” For many years now, Hansgrohe has been collaborating with Philippe Starck, Antonio Citterio, Jean-Marie Massaud, Patricia Urquiola as well as Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, among others.

Hansgrohe also optimises the sound design and feel of its products. Acoustics experts make sure that the water experience provided by Hansgrohe products is an auditory pleasure as well. The sensory experience is another focus of attention: The technology of injecting air into water creates a pleasant feeling on the skin when the shower spray touches one’s Body.

AXOR MyEdition: An individual collection of taps marks the brand’s 25th anniversary

AXOR is a pioneer in the development and manufacture of avant-garde design objects for luxurious bathrooms and kitchens. The AXOR taps, showerheads and accessories lay claim to perfection in design and function. In April 2018, AXOR marked its 25th anniversary at the Salone del Mobile in Milan by premiering AXOR MyEdition, its new collection of taps. Created in collaboration with the Stuttgart-based design studio Phoenix, the collection is a statement of personality, self-realisation, and individual creativity. A variety of surface colours lend the tap an exceptional look.
