The Design Hotel FRITZ Lauterbad Relies on AXOR in its Appartement47 by monkey47 Gin

Schiltach, December 2021. Appealing contrasts and intelligent connections are what make the Hotel FRITZ in Freudenstadt-Lauterbad, Germany so special. On the one hand, there is its location in the heart of the Black Forest. Spectacular and wildly romantic, it offers a view into the forest and in the direction of the Swabian Alb. Allowing for pure deceleration while stoking a fascination with the environment, the location leaves a lasting impression on guests.

On the other hand, there are the two buildings that, together, comprise the 67 rooms of the hotel, providing contrast to each other even as they harmonize so wonderfully together. The first structure, a traditional Black Forest house and protected historical monument, attracts attention on its own, yet finds its place naturally next to the architecturally sophisticated new building, its façade of wood and glass almost blending into the surrounding forest scenery. In the end, it is with an exciting interior mix of natural materials, furniture in warm colors, and industrial-style elements that Steffen Schillinger, founder of the new Hotel FRITZ Lauterbad, turned the former luxury hotel Zollernblick, dating from 1896, into a contemporary design hotel with an “Urban Black Forest” motto. The 'Appartement47 by monkey47' Gin is the perfect creative expression of the overall approach. The suite was designed and planned by a trio distinguished by its stylistic confidence, creativity and courage: monkey47, Stilmanipulation from Cologne, and Steffen Schillinger himself. True to their “Back to the roots” vision of offering urban design in the heart of the Black Forest, they relied on AXOR faucets, showers and accessories to equip the bathrooms of the three-room suite.

“We opted for AXOR since both the product variety and the design fit perfectly with the concept of our new 'Appartement47 suite by monkey47' Gin. The great quality, design language, and surface finishes make happy just looking at them. Back to the Black Forest Roots

Upon entering the Appartement47, located in the historic residence area, one immediately feels drawn back into the past: An old tube television and VHS tapes, a record player with vinyl records, a vintage typewriter, and other retro elements give the room familiarity and coziness. Niches with arched windows and wood paneling pick up the exterior of the Black Forest house while providing space for a desk and a leather sofa. In case the view to the Black Forest doesn’t provide guests with enough nature to contemplate, a wallpaper pattern rich with ferns, animal motifs and, notably, monkey figures in different outfits provides a lively “green” atmosphere with an homage to monkey47 Gin. In addition, the famous juniper spirit from the Black Forest is the theme of the “copper bar” in the center of the suite, which is of course well stocked and can be expanded at will. Together with the three light objects that hover above it on pipes, the bar is a real eye-catcher in the hotel’s typical industrial style.

In the spacious bathroom, guests will find a dignified ambience with calm colors, supported by light grey tiles in a concrete look, a glossy white backsplash, and a wash basin cabinet in dark wood. Above the washbasin, an impressive round mirror gives additional breadth to the room, which features a sloping roof and a large window. The single lever wash basin faucet from the AXOR Citterio E collection brings its balanced proportions and timeless elegance into the bathroom and, with its Brushed Black Chrome finish, completes the warm atmosphere. An AXOR Showerpipe designed by Front provides a visual and functional highlight: Designed in industrial style and refined in a Brushed Black Chrome finish, it picks up the thematic contrast to the traditional Black Forest and brings it into the shower area. With two jets and the possibility to change between overhead and hand-held shower, the showerpipe offers a fascinating water experience. The striking look of the faucets and shower is completed by a shaving mirror and tower hook from the AXOR Universal Circular Accessories program, both also finished in Brushed Black Chrome.
