hansgrohe Pulsify Planet Edition wins the German Federal Government’s Ecodesign Award 2023

German Government Prize for Ecological Design Honors Premium Brand hansgrohe

Schiltach/Berlin, December 2023. Imaginative, ecological and forward-looking: the Federal Government’s Ecodesign Award is the highest state award for ecological design in Germany. In the product category, the Pulsify Planet Edition by hansgrohe impressed the jury of top-class experts from the Federal Environmental Agency and was awarded the German Ecodesign Award 2023. This year, around 360 projects were submitted by manufacturers, as well as design, engineering and architecture firms and universities. They were assessed for their innovative content, design quality and environmental characteristics. The impact on everyday culture and consumer behavior also played a role in the assessment.

"The jury honored Hansgrohe's ongoing innovative drive with the 'Planet Edition' shower fitting. Hansgrohe has been researching for years in its in-house jet laboratory to minimize water flow rates and is currently very economical with approx. 6 l / minute. With recycled ABS and PET upcycling, a completely new material aspect is entering the industry - a quantum leap from the jury's point of view," says renowned product designer and jury member Werner Aisslinger.

The innovative hansgrohe Pulsify Planet Edition is not only one of the premium brand's most resource-conserving hand-held showers, but also considers other aspects of the product life cycle in addition to the usage phase. True to the sustainability triad 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', the handle of the shower is made from a recycled plastic ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer). The unique process for extracting this raw material from old products was especially developed by the Hansgrohe Group. To reduce the use of resources and shorten transportation routes within the manufacturing process, used materials should be recycled for as long as possible. This alternative to fossil-based primary plastics enables a significant reduction in energy consumption during production. The hand-held shower is manufactured completely chrome-free. This reduces the use of additional material resources and chemicals to a necessary minimum. All raw materials used are recyclable. In addition to the Pulsify hand-held shower, the product range made from recycled plastic includes the hansgrohe WallStoris Planet Edition accessories program and a shower hose, the hansgrohe Designflex Planet Edition. The yarns for the textile surface of the hose were obtained from recycled PET bottles.
